What Type of Metabolism Do You
Have? |
|
Have you ever set out to lose weight
only to become confused over all the contradicting diet advice? Have
you ever wanted to improve your energy, yet didn’t know how? A new
series of cutting-edge tests offered by the Bolles Clinic can help
you solve these questions and many more.
The metabolic typing tests will help you discover the way your
body produces and processes energy. Using that information, the
doctor can advise you on different lifestyle and eating strategies
to optimize your energy, fitness, and weight. Because the diet is
tailored precisely to your body, you’re virtually assured to see
results.
Because individuals metabolize food differently, the foods and
supplements that are beneficial to one person are literally dietary
poison to another. Eating a diet right for your metabolism can
help:
- Lower your cholesterol levels
- Improve energy levels
- Control your weight
- Improve diabetes
- Prevent the decline in muscle mass associated with
aging
|
- Control asthma and allergies, and
- Prevent degenerative diseases
Metabolism is controlled primarily by two body systems: the
oxidative system and autonomic system. The oxidative system converts
nutrients into energy. Some individuals have oxidative systems that
work quickly, while other people’s oxidative systems work slowly.
The autonomic system controls the use and distribution of energy. It
has two branches, the parasympathetic branch and the sympathetic
branch. People whose autonomic systems are dominated by their
sympathetic branch, or sympathetics, have metabolism that is more
proactive or characterized by "fight or flight." Parasympathetics
have metabolism that is more relaxed, or characterized by "rest and
digest." The combination of whether you are a fast
or slow oxidizer and a parasympathetic or sympathetic make up your
metabolic type. Your metabolic type affects how different nutrients
are broken down in your body, determining which foods will improve
your energy and metabolism and which ones will
be

Are All Supplements Created
Equal?
|
|
When it comes to buying vitamin and mineral supplements, they are
not all created equally. The effectiveness of supplements depends on
their quality, and quality is affected by additives and the source
from which the supplement is derived.
When Dr.
Bolles first began recommending supplements to his patients twenty-five years ago, they would often call
him to ask if the brand they selected was good. He found
that they frequently picked supplements of poor quality which kept them
from seeing results. To help alleviate this problem, the Bolles
Clinic began carrying supplements from companies that we knew and
trusted. These companies include Carlson’s, Thorne Research, Biotics Research Corporation,
Standard Process Lab, and more. |
The number of
companies selling vitamin products is growing rapidly. It’s becoming
increasingly difficult to know which ones to trust. Many of the
vitamins sold at drug stores contain coloring agents, artificial
flavorings, binders, and fillers that are either unnecessary or
harmful. The biggest difference in supplements is the sources that
the vitamins and minerals come from. For example, most B vitamins
are synthetically produced. Plant-derived vitamin B is the dextro
form, the form that the body needs. Many vitamins contain a
combination of laevo, a synthetic form of vitamin B, and dextro. Studies have shown
